ELA
We will finish Turtle In Paradise in the next week. Students will have a short project to complete to demonstrate their understanding of the text and a short assessment over the book at the end of the week. We will then spend some time exploring informational text for a couple of weeks. Our next book is City of Ember. We will read this novel in the second quarter.
Students will complete their Florida City brochure in the next week as we move into writing the essay. Writing is a process!
Students should complete 30 minutes of IStation each week for reading practice.
We are also accessing the ELA side of Scootpad to practice skills. Students should work to meet weekly goals of 20 questions by Friday.

Math
This week we are starting addition and subtraction. We start by exploring mental math skills that are often a challenge. Students are already mental math stars with basic facts. We are taking them to the next level with using those math facts and the understanding of rounding and estimating to solve addition and subtraction problems. We will then move into addition and subtraction with regrouping. Subtracting across zeros is often a challenge, so be prepared to help students with this skill! The math test for Topic 2 will be Friday, October 16.

Science and Social Studies
Social Studies will have independent activities to complete from Studies Weekly on Tuesday and Thursday. The Google form and Online Crossword should be turned in by Friday. Our Science lessons are all about Matter! We will have an assessment over this topic on Tuesday, October 13. A study guide will be provided. Students may have a list of vocabulary terms to assist with the assessment. We will have a LIVE session to conduct the assessment. |
